A Mr Holland's Opus moment

This post is being written now for a special friend (she knows who she is).

There is this film with Richard Dreyfus and its pretty old now, its called, "Mr Holland's Opus". Now Mr Holland wanted to write an amazing symphony but he got married and they needed money...so he became the music teacher at the local school. This was hard for him because it wasn't his passion. Then his wife got pregnant and that was harder still because he felt even more stuck as a music teacher teaching some good and some mediocre students. Time passes by and he undertakes things like the drama production and even drivers education....he stays at the school.

One of the heartbreaks for Mr Holland is that his son is deaf. Here is this amazing musician wanting to write symphonies, stuck in a job at a music teacher where he feels like he's helping no one and his son can't even easily share the passion of his life! Now with some arguments and struggles, Mr Holland and his son work it out but its hard. Then comes the time when Mr Holland needs to retire. It's a sad day. He lets out his pupils for the last time, he packs his things in the box and his wife and son come to pick him up.

They lead him down a hallway....and down the auditorium...

In the auditorium is a crowd FULL of Mr Holland's previous students, staff and friends. Then the governor, the very first person he taught to play the clarinet, comes down and welcomes Mr Holland and everyone else. Then she gives him the baton and takes her place in the school band....

They then begin to play.... Mr Holland's Opus. His symphony. The one he dreamed would make a big difference. He realises then just how many lives he's touched, how many people he's helped and how many people love and respect him. His Opus while played in music is reflected better in his life.

There are many people in my life that I would love to give a similar moment to and I'd be lying if I said I didn't wish for one myself....of course I do. And perhaps my own life's opus, and yours too, will be played on a commercial when we reach heaven and perhaps for a small number of us, we'll get to see the amazing things we have learnt in life and the people to whom we've impacted and made a difference for.
