A commercial in heaven

The most basic premise of Christianity is that Jesus loved us so much that he gave his life up to pay the price for the sin that we all have in our life and in the Bible, all sin is equal. As human's we tend to rate sins according to our culture and our ethical and moralistic perspective but at the end of the day ANY sin creates a gap between us and God, one that can't be closed easily...so Jesus died on the Cross, fought through hell and rose again on the third day. This means that now there is a connection between us and God, one that allows us to have a completely personal relationship with the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit. It also means that we are able to KNOW that we're going to heaven, that our spirit and souls have been redeemed.

Now I think that heaven celebrates when someone comes home for the final time, just welcoming them in to a very new life where tears are no more. I also think that it would be super cool to have like one of those inspirational commercials play whenever a new person enters heaven. You know the ones, the ones where some person is repelling down a rope to save another human being, or they're flying helicopters in super cool maneuvers or saving kids from burning buildings, you get the picture. They're all motivational commercials that provide a highlight package of amazing things that that person can do in that job. I think it would be cool to have one of those for each person arriving in heaven.

See, Jesus' sacrifice takes away the blame and its like washing us clean again....so even though our "commercial package" could include a whole lot of awful things, all our faults and weaknesses, Jesus paid that price so our "commercial package" could show all those things that other people don't see. The people we help and never talk about, the time we pick up that bit of litter off the ground, the time we forgive a person that hurts us, the effort that we put into our jobs to do the best job and be the best person we can be... that would be pretty cool.

If we could grasp this concept and trust that God knows our heart in what we do, then we can be more motivated to to be ourselves. See we need to be who we're meant to be whether its a teacher or a dancer or a social worker or a receptionist...no matter what our roles are in life we need to do them to the best of our ability. It's not about "doing good works" or "being a good person" for we're all sinners and all fall short of heaven will rejoice for the integrity and honesty and hard work that we've put into things.

Recognising that God has made a diverse and interesting human race means that we need to take our strengths and work them to the advantage of God's glory which ultimately will also assist the human race. It's not always easy, in fact a lot of the time its damn hard, but its what we need to do. Then with our weaknesses its good to acknowledge them and work on them, work to improve them but also seek out other people to help fill in the gaps where their strengths are the equals to our weaknesses, yet another reason why we need to be interdependent on people, helping each other, accepting help from each other. This concept is experienced in the song "Hall of Fame" by The Script ft. Will I Am.

When things get hard we need to keep working really hard to try and reach our goals...

Hall of Fame - The Script ft. Will I Am
Yeah, You could be the greatest
You can be the best
You can be the king kong banging on your chest

You could beat the world
You could beat the war
You could talk to God, go banging on his door

You can throw your hands up
You can be the clock
You can move a mountain
You can break rocks
You can be a master
Don't wait for luck
Dedicate yourself and you can find yourself

Standing in the hall of fame
And the world's gonna know your name
Cause you burn with the brightest flame
And the world's gonna know your name
And you'll be on the walls of the hall of fame

You could go the distance
You could run the mile
You could walk straight through hell with a smile

You could be the hero
You could get the gold
Breaking all the records that thought never could be broke

Do it for your people
Do it for your pride
Never gonna know if you never even try

Do it for your counrty
Do it for you name
Cause there's gonna be a day

When your, standing in the hall of fame
And the world's gonna know your name
Cause you burn with the brightest flame
And the world's gonna know your name
And you'll be on the walls of the hall of fame

Be a champion, Be a champion, Be a champion, Be a champion

On the walls of the hall of fame

Be students
Be teachers
Be politicians
Be preachers

Be believers
Be leaders
Be astronauts
Be champions
Be true seekers

Be students
Be teachers
Be politicians
Be preachers

Be believers
Be leaders
Be astronauts

You had me from your first sentences. I truly believe that people are way too harsh on people and them selves depending on what their 'sins' are, but the reality is, all sins are sins in God's eyes and no sin is greater or another sin smaller.
I wish that my so called Christian friends would remember this when they are unkind to my gay friends. In many cases I have found my gay friends to be far more christian than my Christian friends who forget about loving the person, aceceptance, treating another as your brother or as you would want to be treated, etc. They throw all that away and point the finger 'j'accuse! When also in reality, the only one who has the right to judge is God. Not me, not you, God. When we judge each other by their sins, we sin ourselves.

Now that I've stopped my preaching! (sorry, it's a hot subject for me after seeing some special friends utterly devastated and rejected.)
I love your idea of the commercial. I love your idea of depicting the PACKAGE that we are. How often do we and other people define ourselves from a few things - we get fixtated mostly on the negative aspects and miss so many more great ones. I'm pretty sure God sees the whole package himself! And that is who we truly ARe - we are the sum of everything.

I also love how you have said we are all equally important and needed and love the song.

An analogy I use is, all of us are like single notes that make up a brilliant and complicated orchestral composition. If one single note is missing, the whole thing is off, out of key, sounds wrong. We might all be different, might have different strengths and weaknesses but as a cohesive whole, all of us are equally vital.

Love this post. So much wisdom. Love you and sending ((hugs)) xx
